From our New Umpire in Chief of District 11

My name is Chris Wilkinson. I am a Level 4 umpire who has recently moved to Kamloops (May 2008) and as of October taken over for Don Andrews as the District 11 Umpire-in-chief.  I have over 10 years of umpiring and supervising experience and have been privileged to have been selected to 3 National Championships. On a personal note, I am originally from Ashcroft and travelled in and played for Kamloops’ Bantam and Midget B team in the early 90’s. I am CA and work for KPMG in Kamloops, married with two boys, who are 6 & 4 and love the game of softball. I am excited about filling the UIC position for the district and look forward to working with you on or off the field.

Facebook:

I have developed a Facebook group page for our district 11 umpires where I hope to post up-to-date information. If you are already on Facebook, please search the group “Softball BC District 11 Umpires” and request to sign up as a member and I will make it happen. Otherwise, I will also try and get pertinent information posted to the KMFA website as the association is working hard to update their website.

Winter Mini-Clinics:

I would like to invite any and all umpires, new or experienced to come out to some winter mini-clinics.  These are not mandatory, but I will be putting these on along with the Softball Academy KMFA is holding. The Facebook page has the details, but I will put them here as well. Come with indoor shoes and dressed with clothes you can run around in. Come out and start practicing basic mechanics, rules, positioning and get to know your fellow blue.

Where: Westsyde Secondary School (855 Bebek Road, Kamloops)

Dates: January 17, January 31, February 7, February 21

Time: 2pm-4pm

Main Mandatory Clinic: Level 1, 2 & Refresher

Where: Yacht Club, Kamloops

Date: March 20th

Time: 8am – 5pm

Please note that it is mandatory to attend a clinic every year, and National Written exam is mandatory for all umpires to write every year.

Action Items:

1.     Please reply confirming your intention to or not to umpire for 2010 and don’t hesitate to call me if you have any concerns about coming back.

2.     Please let me know which of the winter clinics will be able to attend, if you choose to do so.

3.     Please update me with your most recent and complete contact information for my umpire database by filling out the attached registration form.

4.     Mark March 20 down in your calendar for the clinic date – I will make further contact at a later date to confirm your attendance.

5.     Please look to your peers, family and friends and encourage them to come out and become part of the blue crew.

That’s it for now; please don’t hesitate to call me with any questions or concerns.  If I’ve included you on this email by mistake, please let me know and I will take your off the email list

Yours in Blue,

Chris Wilkinson
